I started this blog so I don't have to send emails describing the latest in Real News to my friends..... Many people are tired of the MainStream Media. They (MSM) only cover a small fraction of whats really going on in the world. Most of us have been conditioned to expect honest reporting ... remember Cronkite "that's the way it is" ? Well... we are in a new world now! Bombarded by rumors and information from all sides, YOU have to be the one deciding if what you hear really is the way things are.
Before the printing press was invented and mass media began to grow... INDIVIDUALS decided which rumors to believe and which to ignore.. This caused virtue and integrity to be valuable. We have come full circle in some ways to that point again. There is so much information out there ... its up to YOU to decide what is right and wrong.

What media sources do you trust? How do you go about verifying that those sources are indeed trustworthy?
ReplyDeleteI ask you, how do you verify a friend is trustworthy?
ReplyDeleteI subscribe to over 30 podcasts and about a dozen website and countless email alerts…. About half could be called liberal and the others conservative. I look for contradictions…this is the area of excitement for me. For some people, deciding on your own is a scary (or bothersome) place to be … not for me..... If you had two friends that contradicted each other.... what would you do?
I realize that vetting the truth is sometimes a difficult and arduous (sp) task however this is a question that I have been asked often. How do you know they are telling you the truth? I realize that gleaning information from all areas is easy now and nearly counterproductive to do it from a newspaper. Does an information source gain credibility or lose credibility with you if it appears or becomes known they have an agenda? Do you still apply the same weight to their information?
ReplyDeleteAs far as finding my friends is concerned usually the one that gets to be right at the time is the one that says: "Hey I'll get the tab." More than likely they'll be conservative!
I think everyone has an agenda. Some more hidden than others. I heard that Rush Limbaugh sold as much advertising $$$ in January of this year as he did in 10 months of last year. His listeners are skyrocketing.. so my question to him is:Rush, were you secretly hoping that Obama won?
ReplyDeleteAnyway.. to answer your question Bossweenie. I read Drudge first thing every morning and periodically during the day. He just posts links to other stories.. This implies no bias but he does choose which stories to publish and he adds his own titles.
ReplyDeleteYou mention Walter Cronkite’s sign-off “that’s the way it is”. Even then Cronkite was lying. The most trust man in America was lying when he reported on the Viet Nam war. He led the people of the US to believe that we were loosing the war. Today it much better that many more people distrusts the Main Stream Media. Media consumers need to be skeptical of the media because everybody has an agenda, even if they don’t realize that they do.
